Take the advice however you want.
This (I don't know about the never work again part because more than likely he will marry and have a family to support). But forget about the car and moving. Your priority should be joining the AF first.

There is no guarantee he will get Dyess. The AF will send you where the AF needs you. Especially for your first assignment. A lot of people get confused on that.

Getting married and supporting a family does not stop the pension.

When I retired we became foster-parents and we got more children.

But if you can live off of your pension alone, more power to you. All comes down to how you want your standard of living to be....right? Some people can do it, some can’t.

I would hope that after 20-years of steady income, a person will have had opportunity to invest. I did.

My investment's paid for the farm where I live today.

Otherwise what did you do with all of that steady income, for so many years? Some of the men I served with drank most of their income or spent it on girls. Somewhere between those two [girls and drink] accounts for most of their income.

I did that myself for first 6 years in uniform. Then my wife insisted that we invest for retirement.

Well, everyone doesn’t live in a “perfect world” where there are no incidentals in life and you can invest extra income for a pleasant retirement. It’s called “reality” or bluntly, “s!*t happens”! But you took a very wise and smart path.

But let’s stay on the OP’s topic.

This. It isn't easy getting in the Air Force. They are picky.

Your Focus is all wrong. Even if you do only a few years in the service it has to be your concentrated effort. Get rid of the car and your crap, work on your training, even if only for 5 years.
