They actually focus on caring for their people. The Navy and Army focus on mission and can be a little rough on people in doing it. The Marine Corps is hyperfocused on mission.

I've heard it said there are only two armed services: Army and Navy. The Air Force is a corporation and the Marine Corps is a cult.

Of course, that comes with the double-edged sword that the Air Force retains people and may have slower promotions in general as a result.

I agree.

I have often considered.

The Navy wants a row of piers and two dozen supply warehouses on a Navy base. The personnel be damned, give them extra money to feed themselves and to acquire housing for their families. The personnel stationed there find un-used warehouse space to fit an officers' club, an NCO club, an enlisted club, a Commisary, and Exchange. But those are NOT priorities to the navy.

Go on any Army base and you see gyms at every corner.

Go on any Air Force base and you see bowling alleys, golf courses, go-cart tracks, schools, theaters.

I was very happy with the re-enlistment bonuses during my career, $65k every four years. But the year I retired, as they bumped that to $90k, I was shocked.

OK. The Command always took care of us. It's always about the mission and they knew they can't be competent or complete the mission with low moral. I only dealt with the Air Force a few times that I had stayed for 1 day to get a flight overseas. They treated me good and their mess hall is top rate.

The Marines belongs to the Department of the Navy, so I dealt with them a lot after Boot Camp from A school, Aircrew Candidate School in Pensacola and my duty stations. They were cool. A little Gun Ho for my taste but that's their culture. Their high and tight haircuts look like their heads got a circumcision. It looked good when you are young. It doesn't look good on the older Marines. I respect the Marines, they are the branch that gets the least of equipment and supplies from all the branches but makes the most out it of all branches.

I dealt with Army. Most of my H.S. friends went Army. I had the better ASVAB scores and knew how to swim so I join the Navy hunting Soviets Nuclear Submarines. Being a grunt, marching a lot, packing a lot of gear and digging lots of fox holes wasn't for me. Army is the biggest branch with the most personnel so I didn't want to lose myself in the system.

Hi Everyone it's been a while since I got on here. Son #3 went Air Force Security Forces and is ETS'ing on 09/15/23. He developed a neurological condition, and left on a medical disability. It's unfortunate but he has the GI Bill. He's my last one. Thank you to all our veterans for their service. I've always said when your child does time in the service the family is doing time as well.

Hi! I can't believe your last 'baby' is all grown up. I am sorry that he has developed a medical issue (is he medically retired or just released from service?) and hope that he is not in pain.

You have a fine family and I am grateful for your family's service.

Then this is a long thread. Anytime someone asks which job in the military is for them, then later updates that they retired, then the thread is long.
