Just saying.

It does sounds like something a seven year old would dream up in order to get some pats on the head.
You also can't get to space without going through Russia. We haven't had manned launch capability since we retired the shuttle. We buy tickets on Russian rockets to get our cosmonauts into orbit.

Maybe we could contract the whole thing to Moscow.

Then there is the question of the 1967 treaty, but the Soviet Union doesn't exist any more, so maybe Trump wants to put nukes in orbit.

That's so old school sf.... I know, call them STAR FLEET (they even have a uniform set up for them)

Hmmm, will they do a non interference doctrine? Will this mean the third world war before they come back together and embrase starfleet........

Really? What about NAFTA? Apparently the Senate has to ratify treaties, but the president can cancel them with 6 months notice.

You can't get into the "air" without launching from the "ground".

Therefore, this should be an Army thing.

Just saying.

was reading today of the sheer number of laser attacks on Navy Pilots in the South China Sea and considering the possibility of laser attack on satellites, etc. Who protects and defends against them? who searches them out? the Navy does navy, the AF does AF?

Maybe a new military branch is warranted, whether it be a subset of an established department like the marines or a separate branch. you know it has to be separated somehow or the space R&D etc resources will never get through the AF bureaucracy

At this point, it needs to be under the purview of the current Space Command. If the Air Force is having a problem supporting it, then there needs to be some housecleaning at the upper levels...as was necessary when the DoD finally got serious about being "joint" in the 80s.

If that can't work, then Space Command should be formed as a specified command (like the old SAC) within the Air Force or an Air Force corps with a seat on JCS like the Marine Corps or a unified command (like the current STRATCOM or SOCOM). There is a whole ladder of steps before separate military branch of service.
