As we are tired of seeing people walking around with their pants down all day I think it is time to institute a draft. I also think people should be allowed to join the military at any age. The stipulation should be that older people over 45 join more for administrative support and not combat. Also basic training would be adjusted for the older crowd.

Some type of compulsory service might be worth considering, but I don’t feel service in the regular military is the right answer.

I once posted that military should not be a place for civilian losers, military should have high standard. some posters almost bite my head off. So I don't know. lol

Wow. The military is not a place for losers. It's actually incredibly hard to get into. 1 tattoo on your hand, can't join. One use of any drug other than marijuana, can't join. One blemish on your record, can't join. Even shoplifting as a 15 year old will prevent a 25 year old from joining. Late credit card payments, disqualified (at least from the Air Force). Things have changed!

What does someone walking around with their pants down have to do with the draft?

A draft is for times when the military is short of people, right now, the military is either turning away people, or there is a long wait to get sent to boot camp.

No, i think there should be an age cap. Everyone going in should be offered a chance to do 20 years, retire. Having a 65 year old come in will be severely limiting that opportunity, taking a billet from a young person who could, and that old person is way more likely to get injured and have a long recovery time versus a young person.

And what about those young people who want those positions? You know, those who for example been assigned to sea duty for five years, shore duty now comes up, and there is a lack of shore billets because a bunch of old, non-deployable people have them? No thanks.

Everyone who comes in should be fully deployable, anyone who does not become while in should be evaluated as to if they can contribute and continue to serve or not.

That's what I thought. Thanks God military has standard.

Their standards change like the wind though. Even after you are in, the reaction to an adverse event one year, may not be the same five years later for the same event. The military's standards go by "how bad do we need people?".

But in a nation of 325 million people, plus all those in our territories, there are many people of all "older" ages, who are in top physical/athletic shape and whose eyesight and hearing are also good. Some of them could perform all the duties of a combat soldier and they would have the advantage of experience. Those with prior service and in excellent condition, would be especially suited for more duty.

We already allow them to join up to age 40!! That puts them serving up to age 60.... a 61 year old in combat? That's what you're advocating? Ok... agree to disagree.
