I remember in the 90s when the Air Force forced enlisted in overage fields to transition to a new AFSC that was short. You got to see slick-wing E-7 C-130 loadmasters who looked kind of lost! I imagine most of them came from 8 to 5 jobs and now they're in a field where a 12 hour day is considered a short day.

I went from a combat arms job to a desk job with 2 years to retirement. Hated it, but it paid off in retirement.

I also hated being in a desk job. I was so glad when a loadmaster position finally came open and I got it. I never envied anyone with an 8 to 5 job.
