My son joined the Air Force and is currently in bootcamp (4 weeks). He fractured his ankle and will be in "Med Hold" for some weeks. In the meantime, he was told he may be medically discharged due to an IEP he had in high school. It was for speech only. No diagnosis was ever issued by a Doctor nor was he ever on any type of medication. He did not have any special classes or received any accommodations due to this. He graduated with the rest of his classmates and received the normal H.S Diploma. He had a job during H.S and was even in band all 4 years (learned 2 instruments). When he applied this was discussed with the recruiter and since he was not medically diagnosed by a Dr. with any issues he would be fine. Now after 4 weeks in training this came up. My son was excelling (until he was injured) and enjoys being there. Is there anything we can do to improve his chances of staying? Can he get a waiver for this? What documentation should we provide as he is still on base.
