The Afghanistan government is ready to surrender Kabul and not just the U.S. embassy but all nato countries are evacuating. Australia has already left.
Will any military remain to provide intel or air support or is this the end, literally fleeing for their lives, loss of all equipment and vehicles, and no Afghanistan security force?
The embassy isn't "falling" as in being overrun, etc. It is being shut down and evacuated.
No military will remain after the evacuation of the embassy other than the few surge forces sent in to secure the evac routes. They'll be pulled out soon after that.
Very disappointing this whole debacle. I’ll leave my true feelings for other parts of the CD board.
But yea, I don’t see how any troops will be staying in AFG.
I’m curious to see what will happen when the terrorist training camps start operating again. Will we drone strike them? I guess that depends on the political mood of the US at that time. Maybe they’ll offer the Taliban a pallet full of cash to leave New York City alone?

Nope.

This is a far different outcome from just a couple weeks ago. Points toward the intel community too for not seeing this as “most likely” at the end.
What makes you think the intel community did not predict exactly this?
Even if the intel community had predicted "The Afghan government will be overcome by the Taliban within 60 days," it's likely the political leadership would still say, "Let's give the Afghan government a chance to prove you wrong."

Are you implying that CENTCOM briefed Milley, Blinken, and Austin, told them that the Afghan military will fold, and then everyone ignored it and hoped for the best?
If so, that’s a catastrophic failure and everyone should be dismissed.
What likely happened is that they all got it wrong. Or perhaps the J2 and J3 staff knew this was about to happen, but by the time it was briefed up the chain, it was whitewashed and they hung their President out to dry.
Biden point blank said that the Taliban was not capable of taking Afghanistan, that they aren’t the NVA with heavy machinery and weaponry. Somebody told him to say that.
I want to know who told him that, and why does that person still have a job?

It was 6 months, when did it shift to just 60:days?
I’m old enough to remember the fall of Saigon. The last people out there were the Marine embassy guards. They successfully evacuated the remaining embassy staff and then left. The very last American military deaths in Vietnam were two Marine guards killed escorting American civilians to Tan Son Nhut airport. Our Marines in Kabul and those Army airborne troops recently sent in are facing great danger.
As a Vietnam vet I can relate to your humor;while also overcome with a huge sadness. We never learn our lessons……….
Like not sending the military into places they don't need to go. We never should have gone full scale into Iraq or Afghanistan. Iraq should have been ignored, Afghanistan the subject of occasional heavy air raids to destroy training camps, etc. Now, we have the thousands of US lives lost or changed forever, and the loss of trillions of dollars for no particular reason to deal with.
