Same. If anything the military is a place where you learn NOT to see color, except the color green. Seems it had the opposite effect on that guy. Here's hoping he's hiding away in a remote cabin somewhere where he can't hurt anybody.

Shhhhhhh. There there, PossumMan. You can stay in this nice padded room where the big bad immigrants, people with piercings, people proud of their ethnicity, and other people different from you can't hurt you anymore...

I am glad for legal immigrants.

I served with a bunch of them.

Our military allows prospective immigrants to serve as a means of fast-tracking their citizenship. I think that is great.

As to the whole illegal immigrant issue, I think we should at least screen these people to see which ones are known felons or potential terrorists. But this would go against the current consensus.

This is something I know quite a bit about. How exactly would one go about screening someone when you have absolutely no idea who they are? They have no documentation, and none exist back in the 3rd world country they just left.

Let’s say you are a guy from Uganda and you are a bad hombre, fled that country, and showed up at the southern border and claim you are John Jones and just here to make a better life?

How do you screen someone without any data?

The answer? You don’t. You just fingerprint him and release him into the interior of the US so he can continue being a bad hombre.

As if we don’t have enough homegrown criminals in the US already.

Anyway, to get this response back on track, I agree about serving with LEGAL immigrants and them being a worthwhile member of the team.

OK Donald. The thread is about serving, not your take on the things going on at the border.

As recently as 2013 they were allowing illegals in the Army and Marines. Needed warm bodies.

"Illegals" Are you sure about that?

I have served with US servicemembers whose first time on US soil was when they were reporting to bootcamp, but they all gained legal entry before they enlisted.

Yep. No way the military would ever allow someone to serve without proper vetting. Legal immigrants, yes. Illegal, no. I also agree with it being used to fast track citizenship for the legal immigrants. I mean, you're already swearing to uphold the constitution of the United States when you join and you'll learn a lot more about our country when you are in the military and serving alongside fellow citizen soldiers, so it makes sense.

Positive. In lead up to large mobilization, any warm body. No kicking people out for dope or PT failure.

Proper vetting. Haha. Failed drug tests, felonies, and yes, people who entered the country illegally. First hand experience.
