Post News, Painting her son's final images of Iraq.

COLUMBIA, S.C. -- Suzy Shealy was one of those preppy Southern moms whose artistic streak found expression in what she calls "crafty-type things": cross-stitched towels, Christmas ornaments, knitted scarves.

It was stuff to give away at school auctions or offer to neighbors, stuff with little hearts and frills, the comforting, precious visual language of mother-love.

John, there's a lot of dust in the air around here right now. thank you for the wonderful post.
About a year ago, I was in a local store and noticed that the clerk had a pair of dog tags on a chain around her neck. At first it make me angry, but I very politely asked her why she was wearing them. She said "I get asked about these a lot. They are my son's and he is in Iraq. It makes me feel closer to him to wear his dog tags." I wished the lady and her son well and walked away. What else could I do?
