I have a number of Army, Air Force, Navy and Coast Guard PT shirts that I wear around the house. But I can't wear a USMC T-shirt, nothing but respect for those guys.

I also remember the jets flying over. Also I remember a big white hotel on the beach in the distance, the Coronado Hotel maybe? I told myself as soon as I got out of boot camp I was going there and getting a room, never happened

Seems like the other day.

Yep. The big white hotel is the Del Coronado. Still going strong after more than a 100 years. You'll usually see a few Marines who just graduated boot camp along with their families touring the place. NTC is long gone but for some reason the strip clubs and bars along Rosecrans adjacent to the old base are still around for some reason.

So, msgsing, where is NTC SD located now? There is a ROTC cadet in a high school that I work at that upon her graduation this year she told me that she is to train in San Diego for her boot camp. OR she is in for a rude awakening and end up at BRRRR Great Lakes NTC? Thanks.

NTC San Diego is now been redeveloped into Liberty Station - a mixed retail, commercial and residential area.

Yup - the only Naval training facility for enlisted is at Great Lakes.

I took basic at Ft. Ord in June 1968. My cycle was the last to train with the M-14. The M-16 became standard training weapon at the next cycle.

Ft. Jackson, South Carolina, December 1988 to early March 1989. My report date was December 29th, along with a bunch of others, and everything was either shut down/skeleton crew for the holidays. We essentially sat around for about a week and a half in a temporary unit before we got to our regular basic training companies. Never could figure out the logic of that.

And I swear, I was in South Carolina the only winter it ever snowed!!!!!
