My mother and I were wondering what the enlisted thought about McCain/Palin? Not trying to start anything, and I hope I am not being rude in some fashion.....just wondering.

I would hope this thread goes nowhere cuz if it gets started it can only get nasty and go downhill eventually.

Perhaps this subject should be on the political thread where "nastiness" abounds.

Being a retired Enlisted Soldier and still having the priviledge of working with the Army, I can tell you that the McCain/Palin ticket is looked upon favorably by most. Regardless of the outcome a Soldier IS a Soldier and will salute and drive on with the mission.

Katsmeeyow,

My husband is active duty and we are both voting Obama. We both respect McCain for his service to this country but we don't agree with his policies and views.

Personally, I'm not sure if it'll make a difference which party gets into the White House for me. All I really want my president to do is just let us Americans live our lives. There are things I like about the Republicans but I'm more than a little concerned about any politician bringing his/her religious beliefs into their job... I admire both McCain and Palin but parts of their campaigning on certain issues bothers me. I also admire Obama and hope the Democrats don't think that pouring excessive money into social programs of dubious value is the way to buy votes...(BOTH parties like to do that to buy votes, FWIW) I guess I'd describe my self as a fiscally conservative, Second Amendment-supporting Democrat...

I've always heard that Republicans are more military-friendly but my personal belief is that Republicans are probably more defense-contractor friendly but that neither party is really more friendly to the troops on the ships, in the foxholes or on the flightline. Just my opinion.

I'm enlisted and I'm voting for Obama/ Biden. I think Obama is a better leader and has supported the military more.

Because of where he stands on the issues, at this point in time will be voting for McCain/Palin. I want someone that is not going to make promises (especially with the military) and turn around and break them.

The current administration definitely fits your description. This has also led to millions of dollars lost to corruption committed by a few military people (some based here at Ft Sam in San Antonio. Here our government is trying to fight terrorism and some people have to exploit that...they're no better than the terrorists and dishonor our people in uniform (present and past).

I really appreciate all of your posts. After starting this thread (with all good intentions!) I kind of started second guessing myself whether I should have opened it. I am so glad that, so far, I haven't "started" something!

Thanks so much for replying to me in the manner to which I intended this thread! My family and I were just so interested in what the general "feelings" were about this.

Kat
