You may be right there. I grew up in the old Navy following my ol' man around. Uniform standards are nothing new, certainly. I remember me Dad dressing in a different uniform for different purpose every day and "working" uniforms were NEVER allowed in civilian public off base. The appearance standards were always strictly enforced as well. Haircut, clean shaven and generally CLEAN and neat. It doesn't seem like it was THAT long ago. I must be getting old.

I think this Navy policy is silly. For YEARS we've worn other uniforms, and have taken care of errands, stopped for gas or what have you WHILE in uniform...and it was NEVER an issue....but suddenly with the new digital uniforms it is....

WT....is the new pattern too "scary" for the public to see?

The Navy times and other blogs are getting thousands of hits from members wondering why the policy is so screwed up....

Thoughts?
The Navy are a bunch of morons when it come to uniforms. Have you heard they are going to replace the new PT uniforms after finding out people can see through them after working up a sweat. I guess noone actually did PT in the new PT uniform before approving and requiring the fleet to purchase them.

I've never looked into this or confirmed this, but the general assumption in the USAF are people who are the decision makers of the uniform are civilians...

Approx 18 months ago, our new BDU replacement, the ABU were released. Very controversial.
1. We deploy to the desert...Majority of people wear flax vest which cover the front pockets of the ABU top. The marines and army have shoulder pockets which gives a little storage when wearing a vest. AF enlisted wear their rank/stripes on their arms, because of this tradition, they forewent the shoulder pockets. To further add chip away at their logic, 20-30% of the USAF wear flight suits, the enlisted do NOT wear rank on their sleeves. I think we need to evole...Too late now...
2. When the ABUs came out, they said not to use certain soaps when washing...Now they say it's ok to use any soap...Where's the R&D?

This is the very reason why Democrats cut the defense budget. I love the Military, but they always make dumb decisions when it comes to uniforms, new technology and giving away contracts. I see why Blackwater and other contractors cheat and steals from the government, because the Military top brass doesn't have any common sense outside of fighting battles.

Civilians maybe in charge of coming up with the design of the uniform, but the Military has the final approval.

Hmmm.... Athletically fit young people working up a sweat in a see-through uniform.

Sounds like a great recruiting tool to me.

I joined the wrong service - darn.

Way to go Navy!

I used to work on a Navy base and would go to work 30 minutes early every day just to be able to sit in the parking lot and watch them exercise.

YEP! But the Seals seem to be the only ones who stay in shape.
