Default recently married moving to yokosuka japan in the next couple months

hello my name is sydney and i found this site on google, i just recently got married ( on jan 3rd) and my husband is stationed in yokosuka japan and i plan on joining him in the next couple of months. he has requested to have his original orders amended to add me but the military is saying that we have to pay for everything up frount i.e. plane ticket, moving expenses, so on and so forth ( does this sound right?) any who i am a normal civilian and i know nothing about the military, i work in the logistics field and am persuing a degree in finance, i have no earthly idea on who i need to talk to, im pretty much doing everything on my own. i was wondering if any one had any suggestions on how i might be able to move my belongings and anything else i may need to know, the ship my husband is on is very busy and they stay underway a lot so right now i could use all the help i can get, any information would be sooooooooooo helpful.

I have been retired from the AF for a few years but you making the arrangements and paying up front does not sound right to me. Has he gotten his orders amended to add you yet? I would suggest you not do anything until that has happened. Once he has those, he should be able to make arrangements from his end to get your travel and move organized. This is an excellent site that may provide some hep as well..

Good luck!

Good question. I have served in Japan as well. What he needs to obtain is Command Sponsorship.

CNFJ 1300.1R provides amplification upon exactly how this may be done. I recommend reading it in its entirety. You may download and print this instruction at http://www.psapac.navy.mil/pcs/CNFJ-1300-1R.pdf

That should answer your questions. If you have any further questions, let me know.

Basically, if the prerequisites are not met, and a waiver (exception) is not obtained, you will not be command sponsored, and you will be paying for things out of pocket. Read and follow the aforementioned instruction to the letter and you won't have any issues.

The command sponsorship has to happen before you can be put on your husbands orders so if he is working on getting you on his orders, that should mean he is working on the command sponsorship. As the previous poster said, if you are not command sponsored, you pay your travel etc and you will not be reimbursed. Under most cases in an overseas assignment, it also means it extends time on his tour length, typically 12 months I believe.

My bf is there, and tells me that the country is wonderful. If you're curious as to what to do/not when you get there, I started a thread about it a while back. Maybe it will help.

As other posters have stated, unless you get a command sponsorship you're going to be paying for your travel yourself. If ya'll had gotten married BEFORE he got his orders, then it would have been more likely you'd have been on them, so yes, it does sound right.
