I never used any of the banks, I became a member of a credit union on my first assignment in 1980 and this is my # 1 choice for 29 years. Regardless of assignments they have provided superior service....

Best advice select a financial institution that works for you and stick to one...

Why didn't the OP just google......

Why not? It's like asking which is the best Branch to join.

Because the OP has no affiliation with the military/gov and wouldn't meet the criteria for membership to these types of institutions

The information that we provided the OP is public information, so I doubt that it matters.

Actually the OP would under Navy Federal if he/she had a mom, dad, grandparent, sister or brother that served in the Military.

Most the Credit Unions will allow a new membership. We have a number of military credit unions in NorthWest Fl and they all are open to the county and military (affiliated) families.

NFCU isn't bad, but they'll give ANYBODY money, and if you fall behind on payments, they're really annoying to deal with, because there is a serious lack of communications between their departments (loans vs. credit cards vs. car notes vs. collections, etc) and you can work out a deal with one person, only to have 3 others calling you telling you something different. I've spent nearly whole days on the phone with them, going back and forth with people who don't talk to each other.

I don't bank with an institute based on their current CD rates, lol. I also do not even invest in CDs anyway. If high yields is what you crave, the rage of the finance forums is redneckbank dot com. They have a 5.25% APY checking account, compounded monthly. You have to use their debit card ten times a month and it's capped at $25K, meaning if you have more than that in your account it will not accrue that interest.

USAA is great, but like all other online banks, withdrawing a large amount of cash or getting a cashers check the same day is impossible.

I don't bank at NFCU because of the CD rates either, although they are better than USAA. The interest rates for loans are also lower than USAA btw.
