A relitive is going into the national guard reserve. She was wondering about the required one pushup to pass basic. Is the pushup for women done on the knees or on the toes? Thanks

It depends. When I was Army, we did them on the toes. In the Navy, they let them do them on their knees. I also believe it's more than one push-up to pass basic. By the time basic is through, she'll be able to do at least 20!

I'm sorry I think it was to pass the physical requirerments just to get INTO basic not at the end of basic.

She should have a recruiter and someone at the unit helping her get ready for this, including push ups, sit ups and the two-mile run.

If not, she's in for a system shock, unless she's in good shape now.

When a person can't meet the minimum PT standards upon arrival, they spend a while in a special unit working on their fitness level. This often messes with the schedules and plans of reserve or nat'l guard troops since they try to get training done before school starts in the fall.

Good god, she's worried about ONE pushup?!

I'm 46 and I can do at least 20, and that's not the wimpy knee-kind, either.

I'm mid 40's and I can do 35 -- on my toes.

Honestly, it's not that hard. You do 10 one week, 15 the next, and so on.

I'm not even in very good shape!

Reserve have to go through the same boot camp. In the AF I know you have to do about 20, as a female, in 1 or 2 minutes to pass. I don't know the exact numbers, but it's somewhere around that. Tell her to start practicing! And no, you can't do it on your knees...hahahaha...lol...knees? No knees!

She should do an internet search.

Pushups 13, situps 43, two-mile 19:42.

Army Physical Fitness Testing (http://www.usarec.army.mil/hq/apa/rc/apft.htm - broken link)

That's the Army standard. Other services vary.

Army did away with girlie pushups a long time ago. Everyone does standard pushups.

She needs to start training now if she's not already in decent shape.
