I'd say, it's probably that he's somewhere that he can't call from. You can contact Ft. Jackson and see if they can track him down. However, the movement of all troops is always classified, so you may get little help. I'd start at Ft. Jackson, though. Good luck!
How long after leaving for bootcamp that I don't hear from my soldier at Ft. Jackson do I start to panic?
And same goes for School of Infantry at Lejeune?
I started crying today because I must have been a horrible mother for kids not to want to write home-or call for that matter.
Vegas, I am sure you are a wonderful mother just for the fact that you are missing them so terribly!
Am I correct assuming they have email and cell phones? If that's the case, they are just very busy, out in the field, and exhausted when back home. If they don't have laptop/cell phone, contact might even take longer.
How long has it been? Are they twins?
Weren't you AD? You know how this goes. Be patient! Hang in there and keep your cell phone handy. I am sure you will be the first they contact

If you really want them to contact you, you could send an amcross. My mother sent me two due to the fact that I was just too busy and didn't have time to call home.
Don't worry! In all branches they don't let you call for a few weeks and usually they just have the individual just send off the prewritten (i'm ok)card. The reason for that is to break the dependency of a child to his or her parent/s.When I went through it was about 2 weeks.Hang in there.

As a former recruiter, I would get calls from moms who had not been contacted from their kids.
I would track down the drill and shoot him an email (this took a while) and let him know. He'd go smoke them for not calling home, then make them write.
They are instructed to contact family and given time to do so -- normally after a few weeks.
It ain't your fault. Some get so wrapped up in the training they simply lose focus.
At SOI you're given a little more in the way of personal freedom than basic training, but it may be difficult to get access to a phone - often times they don't work and there's a huge line. I imagine that cell phones are forbidden at SOI, but I don't know for sure. If they're out in the field then obviously it could be a while. If I remember right we were given four weekends off during SOI, I imagine they could/probably would call then. Like others have said, maybe he's just wrapped up in training or other aspects of Marine Corps life.
So you've got two kids off serving? I'm sure that's rough, but you should be very proud - you must've done something right to steer them that way. Feel free to drop in with your questions anytime.
Thanks for your words of encouragement and reality check.
My daughters are very independent and I'm sure very busy.
My 18 year old left for basic at Ft. Jackson on the 24th of February and no letter or phone call....not even the "Dear Mom and Dad" they make you write day ONE. Just doesn't make sense.
And my 17 year old, when I took her to SOI MCT I was told by several that they get down time even though they are in the field. Her graduation is supposed to be in 2 weeks...but is she graduating? Should I make hotel reservations for Liberty Sunday/Graduation Monday?

I guess no news is good news.
Thanks again.
Wow, congratulations to you! Sounds like you have raised 2 strong, independent young women! Letting go isn't easy, is it? I am dreading the Fall when my oldest will be leaving the nest for college. And she isn't even leaving the state!
I wonder if your daughters have called each other!!!
Hang in there and God Bless!
