Ahhh, Fort Lost in the Woods Missery
Same station I went to many moons ago as a 12 boom.

Before you leave,
Learn how to shave, honestly!
Do not get a buzz cut before you go to Missouri, leave your hair alone
Do not bring any laundry detergent and spankie mags
Once you get off the cattle car, again, make sure you do not have any spankie mags

Learn how to stand at attention in a concrete sidewalk square, this will be your home.

If you are in better shape than your DI, which is rare, do not show it.
Do not look your DI in the eye. Eyes straight, shoulders back, and keep your mouth shut.

Do not call you newly found girlfriend (weapon) a gun.

Do not bring elastic leg straps. Keep you pants tucked in your c'ruit boots.

Make sure your quarters is spotless at all times.

At lights out, do not talk, yell, burp, or fart. Do what the DI tells you.
Mount, Adjust, Pray, Sleep! They have intercom's in the CQ office. Any of the previous will guarantee you 1am guerilla grass drills in the rain and mud.

Wear your deoderant and keep your stuff clean. If not you may find yourself getting a steel spongue bath from your peers. We had dirty Gert from out west that earned himself one during my day.

Train yourself before you go. Running 2 miles, 40 pushups in 2 minutes, 40 situps in 2 minutes, every day.

Again, do not call your new found girlfriend (weapon) a gun. I cannot stress this enough.

Practice throwing a baseball, as you will have grenade qualification.

Just some stuff off the top of my head.

So basically if I just keep my mouth shut, lay low, am in shape, and do what they tell me as fast as possible...I should be all right?

You'll be ok. You WILL get some flack from the DI's no matter what you do or don't do, but don't sweat it. It isn't personal, it's just part of the training. Just go with the flow. Good luck.
