My dad is retired Army. I saw the humiliation he and his brothers suffered during the Vietnam war for being in the military. Dad never took the time to comment on any of it, it was his way of not giving them the satisfaction.
He rose above them in his pride in wearing the uniform.
It's been 38 years since he retired. The VA dismisses him at parades when our flag goes by he is one of the few that stands and gets stared at or is told by the people behind him they can't see.
Yet when father and son get together we both are mutually aware of the others service to this nation. I served in a time of peace but not dad.
A veteran of both Korean and Vietnam wars he is my hero.
Thank you to all the veterans at every age, no matter when you served. May God bless you.

I'm a retired Navy SeaBee of 15 years with 6 years prior service in the Army. I will always stand and render honors when Old Glory passes me by.
I hope you all don't mind me popping in here. But when I saw this post I had to come and see what it was all about, for you see I too want to say THANK-YOU to all of the men and women who have served and are serving this country as well as to their families. The sacrafices you have made and are making are very much appreciated.
My uncles and great uncles all served in the military and my father was also a military man. I lost an uncle in Vietnam while I was to young to really get to know him. I lost a great uncle in WWII that I never got to know at all.
I just want you to know that even though I have never served, I still stand and place my hand over my heart every time the flag is presented, because I understand the sacrifices that have been made to keep that banner waving.
You are most welcome. To me it doesn't seem like it is enough to just say Thank-You when you all have given and done so much for this country and our freedoms but there are no other words I can say to express my gratitutde and appreciation. My prayers are with you all.

Pardon my intrusion, I just wanted to add something, incase you might find the information helpful. I've had people ask me before, "what can I do aside from a thank you and yellow ribbon to show support?" and so whenever people ask me that, or I read posts on message boards from time to time that give that impression, I always like to share information about one of my favorite places to send charitable contributions, the Fisher House.
Also, I wanted to say that the kind words that you write on message boards may not seem like much, but on a hard day, reading those words is VERY uplifting, thank you for them.
