And please don't forget the Vietnam vets- aging 'boomers' who have fallen through the cracks... there are still those who need help, support, and prayers...
My father was a lieutenant in the Dutch Underground during WW2 (pronounced leftenant). There's a tree with a bullet meant for him. His cousin, a mathematician and artist, prepared false documents for refugees protected by the Underground. Although he forwarded the papers, he didn't know that she was the artist until after the war.
My great-great-grandfather fought in the Napoleonic War and lived to be granted a position by King William of Orange (William Frederik of Orange-Nassau) as Commander and Chief of the Dutch East Indies - an insult, in fact; a punishment for having taken the Prussian army into Spain under French colours. The French epaulettes, cuffs, and collar were the problem, but he was still rewarded for his military actions with a military outpost.
I'm proud of military history in the family. My father learned during the German occupation that they come into your homes, they take what they want, they do what they want, and you have to remain silent or be shot, or ... you can build a silent army and fight back.
