Folks, I've been thinking about ways to make the "Military Life and Issues" forum even better. Here's a couple of ideas for subforums:
1. A separate "Military Personnel/Unit" subforum. I believe that locating people that have served in the military and searching for past and present members of a particular unit is too specialized to lump into the "People Search" forum.
2. I also feel like a "Military Announcements" section might be a good idea to call attention to events and other things that would benefit those in our military family.
I like those ideas. How about sections that are branch specific? Things are done differently in each branch, so that might be beneficial to some. Also, how about a section for spouses/SO's and one for parents? I am an Army Wife and a Marine Mom. My experiences as a Mom are totally different as those of a Wife.
I haven't been on this board long enough to know what your volume is, but some of the military-specific boards I frequent have those types of sections.
There are some possibilities Crew Chief, I just don't have any neat ideas or comments at the moment.
I retired from the military 19 years ago. And there has been a lot of changes. For me, I enjoy reading all the military posts here, there aren't that many, and I had hoped to learn and keep up with. I also have friends who have sons and daughters going in.
I am really lost at what would be of best benefit.
The only other stuff that comes to mind is a "thinking of joining" subforum.
I know military dot com has a huge spouses forum area with lots of subforums but I think we do just fine intermingling spouses and servicemembers on this one.
See if we can get a few representives from AmVets, American Legions, DAV's and the VFW on CD. We're going to have a lot more returning war Vets than we already now have that are going to need lots of help. And thier families can use the same help before thier loved ones return from the big sand box.
I know that they're already out there waiting to help, but must civilians have no clue where to start the ball rolling. And being prepared now is the main key to getting more help to our TROOPS.
How about an "Ask the Vets" subforum where people with no military experience can ask Vets questions. People thinking of enlisting or folks with questions about current operations (OIF/OEF) can get answers from recent vets. People looking for 'historical" info can ask the many vets here from Vietnam Desert Storm, etc.
Crew Chief:
The thread "Let's Thank our Vets.....all of them" is invaluable. Please consider making it a sticky at the beginning of the forum. There are hundreds of priceless outstanding photos and responses from and for every branch of the military past and present.
With Respect,
tyvin
I think the pace of posting here is slow paced and don't think sub forums are need at this time. This way everyone sees everything at one time.
Just my 2 cents.
I agree that the small number of post don't warrant anything additional. If they do add forums/sub forums then I think each component having their own would be the way to go.
I can remember how when we'd pop the last dog on the one hatch in the forward pump room (1 pump), the suction would pop that door right open--you didn't want to be standing behind that door when it opened!
