I think GMA just lost a viewer, permananetly.

After watching Dr Phil on Larry King last night I nearly threw up.
Going on and on about the mental stress of soldiers serving 4-5 tours in war zones.
This Major hadn't even served-- 1--term yet, but Dr Phil didn't want facts to get in the way !

Medical specialty pay can vary greatly depending on a lot of factors, a portion of "Accession Bonus for Medical Officers in Critically Short Wartime Specialities- Chapter 5 of title 37, United States Code":
Quote:
Sec. 302k. Special pay: accession bonus for medical officers in
critically short wartime specialties
`(a) Accession Bonus Authorized- A person who is a graduate of an
accredited school of medicine or osteopathy in a specialty designated
by regulations as a critically short wartime specialty and who executes
a written agreement described in subsection (d) to accept a
commission as an officer of the armed forces and remain on active
duty for a period of not less than four consecutive years may, upon
the acceptance of the agreement by the Secretary concerned, be paid
an accession bonus in the amount determined by the Secretary
concerned.
`(b) Amount of Bonus- The amount of an accession bonus under
subsection (a) may not exceed $400,000.

An active duty Major (O4) with 8 years active duty currently has a monthly Basic Pay of $5,640. It is my understanding the individual had 8 years prior Enlisted service, so it is a bit higher.
There are of course other pay and benefits.
I really do not think the individuals pay is a major issue in this tragedy.

Typical turn the mass murderer into teh victim of society thinking of much of the media now days. They worse part is that 8000 a month is just the start ;we alos paid for that guys becoming a doctor and he had complaints on hsi interaction with his patients while we were according to reports. They even ignore that the muslim-american group that released a statement that no regilion or politcal belief can justify such a horrific action as the doctor took.Instead tehy will concentate on what was done to him to make him such a victim the terrible satan.

Radical sub-human nutjobs don't belong in the military. Keeping them out or finding and booting them once they are in, without making everyone else miserable, is a tough job.
In fact, it is so tough, time-consuming and expensive, we'd rather spend money on security theater than real, long-term, honest, dedicated human intel. It seems that trade-off has been accepted, and is a way of life.

Let's be realistic here folks. Did you really expect the media to tell the truth? I know from the first CNN breaking news email that they would parrot the PTSD line and ignore what really happened. I have not heard a single source besides ABC News and FOX News mention the radical blog postings and his hatred for the very country who's army he happened to be serving in.
This guy has traitor and sleeper cell written all over him but the media chooses to ignore this.

The hell of it is, the "politically correct" attitude prevented anyone from taking any action with this guy before he did his final deed. He shot his mouth off more than once and a really competent CO/XO really should have figured out that this guy was not right in the head. His lectures on Islam, complete with recommendations on who to behead, were not delivered in secret.

As great of a country as ours is, it impossible for them to catch all of them that fly in under the radar. They join up because our Constitution and Bill of Rights says they can. And you all know as well as I do that if they (the Army) would have stepped in and tried to do something before this tragedy occured. The media would have been all over it as a Discrimination and Profiling Case. Its a no win situation.
We can only hope and prey for the families and freinds of the victims.

i think what needs to happen is a complete revamp of the whole military and go beck to the way it use to be.some of what i see happening today would have never happened 20 years ago.and this candy a@# would have been sniffed out and booted.the old time generals would have read him like a book.nowadays its be polite dont hurt any ones feelings.screw that check your feelings at the door Nancy your going to war.if you didn't want to go then you shouldn't have signed the papers.
we have great people in our military and then we have this guy who is in a class of his own.
my deepest sympathy to the families of our fallen soldiers.
