Default Montieth Barracks, Furth, Germany

I was there in 1970 with Co. C, 2/37th Armor and just ran across this website. Thought maybe anyone else who ever served there, or in the Nurnberg area, might find it interesting.

My name is Dan Cole and I was with Company C 2/37 Armor in 1970 and 71. I went to the 4th Armored Division NCO Academy and was promoted to Sgt. E-5. I qualified my tank as a Gunner in 1970 with the 4th Armored Division and again in 1971 with the 1st Armored Division. I got out of the Army right after that. Company C was the worst group of misfits I ever served with. There were a few good people among them but most were draftees who just wanted out.

Since I got out of the US Army in 1971 I have worked in sawmills was a Owner Operator Truck Driver , went to three years of College and recieved a Master Mechanic Certification. I was co-owner of a Truck Tractor and Auto Repair Shop. I have over hauled the engines in 50 ton D8 and D9 Caterpillar Tractors and I have driven them. I have operated a Rice Harvestor and a John Deere 7520 tractor. I have plowed and ripped rice fields. I have worked with Honey Bees and put roofs on houses. I was busy for many years but had a small stroke last year and I am now semi retired. Oh and I went from the 135 pounds of weight I got out of the Army weighing to the 187 I weigh now.

Dan Cole

The Furth px had the same guy at the stairs who welcomed everyone for decades starting in the '70's. He mumbled "welcome to the Furth px". Classic staple.
