Thursday, March 11, 2010
"The 26-year-old man accused of wearing military medals he didn't earn is due in federal court in Huntsville this afternoon for arraignment. Skyler Tarquin Smith, 26, was indicted for allegedly pinning onto his uniform two Purple Hearts, a Bronze Star, a Combat Infantry Badge, a Senior Parachutist Badge and an Air Assault Badge.
He was also indicted on charges of wire fraud, involving a ring he said was diamond and worth nearly $350,000, though he sold it for $70,000. After the buyer wired him the money to a Huntsville bank and received the ring, he had it appraised. It is valued at $13."
