The north side and the near south side are the poorer areas of town. These areas have a greater degree of poverty, crime and blight. The Northwest side, the rest of the South side and the west side(west of 38th st,) is for the most part middle class with tidy neighborhoods and homes. Crime is ,for the most part, low in these neighborhoods and blight isn't that bad. The East side, Third Ward, Downtown, Riverwest, Walkers Point and Riverwest has a different vibe, feel and type of resident. These area have a greater degree of students, young people(20's/30's), gays, yuppies, working class and regular middle class. IMO crime is not that much of a problem in the these neighborhood either. Some areas are a bit edgy, but nothing that bad.

On the north side the highest crime: King Dr. on the east to 38th st on the west, North ave on the South to Keefe on the North.

On the South side the highest crime: National on the North, Beecher on the South, 27th st on the west and I94 on the East.

I hope this helps.
