Radio
MKE radio has always been OK; I really miss Las Vegas radio (lots of variety).
There have been several format changes, and nothing has really changed overall, other than WFMR (classical) being switched to light jazz.
Ughh!! One of the two channels I regularly listen to. I'm glad 102.1 went back independent, but I'll highly miss classical music.
Anybody else?

If you can afford it, try satellite radio, $13 per month. It's an investment, but it's great. No more commercials. I invested in it a few years back, and won't return to local radio. Anything you want, sports, music(of any kind), comedy, talk radio, on and on and on...couple hundred channels.
You do sacrifice local stations, or in this case local Milwaukee stations, but you can always turn off the satellite radio and catch a little local radio....having to listen much less to local radio doesn't make local radio seem as bad.
I couldn't recommend it any higher. Sure I wish it was cheaper, etc...but if you budget the $150 or so a year, it is MUCH better than regular radio.

It depends on what you are into but I like WMSE, WUWM, and 88.9 all of which are great. There are some decent commercial stations but that is more than enough variety for me. IMHO, satellite radio would be a waste of time and moolah and wouldn't give me the stuff I crave.

What happened to 88.9?!
I live in the desert now, out in Arizona. Here we have three choices: Dance music, Mexican music, and country music. Which must be great if you like those three choices, because there are a variety of options for all of them!
There is one NPR station, and that's about all that survives in this big city (Phoenix).
Last time I was in Milwaukee (Memorial Day weekend), my favorite jazz station, 88.9, had changed to some funky format. I know it was just a JazzWorks station anyway (national sydnicated programming) but whatever... at least it was jazz.
I guess there is still 91.7 but their format varies from show to show.
I second the vote for satellite radio, or cable music channels, which I had in VA and they were pretty decent. They do cost money, but compared to what's left of free radio, not too bad an option.

Got a portable XM radio from eBay today... pretty decent.
Arizona dance radio.... isn't that Energy 98? It was the only decent thing to listen to driving on I-40 on the way to Vegas.
I did listen to 88.9 too occasionally. It was local I think, run at MATC (I also noticed the format change). Milwaukee has had a very large station format change over the last year (although we strangely didn't gain any "new" content).

Believe it or not, but FM 102.1 is quite a respectable radio station (considering it is a commercial radio station in a large market); if you like alternative / 90s rock, it isn't bad now being independent (eg: not Clear Channel owned, etc.).
The "Bob and Brian" show on FM 102.9 in the mornings on weekdays is somewhat legendary. Funny stuff, especially for locals. Good mix of politics, history, "guy stuff", sports, entertainment news, etc. Usually I DEPLORE your common dime-a-dozen morning radio talk shows that swarm all markets now, including Milwaukee, but I have to admit B-a-B isn't bad at all.
Lots of pretty good sports talk on AM 620 and AM 1510.
If you are of the conservative political persuation, some good options in that there are shows for guys like Charlie Sykes, Jeff Wagner, and Mark Belling. If you are a liberal, not as many talk options.
I actually think that while commercial radio in markets will never be close to perfect, in Milwaukee, for the size of the city, there are some good options overall.

I have to agree about 102.9. 102.9 THE HOG - Everything That Rocks
I like it because I can listen on my computer. Click the listen live on the right side, and you will have live streaming music ..
No I don't work for them.. (I wish) Just passing along info..
I hope that is allowed.. if not I'm sorry..

UPDATE: I really wish I would have purchased XM a long time ago... It made the move to DE extremely nice. Nearly anything you could want to listen to. At this point, I've decided not to order cable TV and just have radio on in the house. I get so much more done, not to mention saving $40 a month on just basic cable.
102.1 will most likely be the one radio station I miss. They've been good since I can remember (wasn't it Hot 102.1 at one point?).
The only show I ever really listened to on 620 AM was Clark Howard.

To each their own...I don't have the patience for comercials, and I don't particularly enjoy talk radio all that much.
So, I would never listen to FM morning shows(no interest)
Definitely no interest in the AM talk radio during the day...
And would only listen afternoon or evening to some of the college music stations and still would.
Satellite radio covers many areas....many different types of music channels with a much wider array of choices without any commercials or discussion.
Also you can listen to any type of college or pro sporting event in many sports, ...if you want to listen to nothing but comedy 24/7 you can have that on more than one channel....and so on....
Like I said, it is an investment, but you can listen to it at home or in car anytime you want..
I won't ever go back to non-satellite radio...except for maybe some local independent or college music stations in different markets some of the time.
Zero regrets with satellite radio.
