Hello everyone,

I love fried bluegills, crappies and sunfish. You can never find them at store. I'd like to know if anyone has tried fried tilapia? I've heard they are in the same class as various types of sunfish. What do you think about the taste?

Thank you.

I used to eat them all the time but now I am just sick of eating them. It's not bad, it's a cheap fish.

Tilapia is a very mild fish. It's inexpensive, which is why sometimes restuarants will substitute it for other more expensive fish. I assume you'll pan fry it? There are some good recipes out there for parmesan tilapia, which is broiled with a parmesan/mayo topping. I know fish and cheese is verbotten, but it's really good.
It's not going to be as good as the other fish you mentioned, fresh from the lake. Usually it comes from Asia.

personally, I don't like tilapia.
try perch....you can usually buy that at a fish counter...or ask at your store...sometimes they can bring in bluegills.
Or befriend a local fisherman! Nothing better than fried bluegills and eggs for breakfast!
