I'd hate to think that someone out there would believe word for word what zipeckery wrote. Truth be told, South Milwaukee (SM) has its problems like any other small town. Some kids are bored and experiment and unfortunately some are lost to depression and experimentation. But there are more kids who excel and look back with a pride at the town they grew up in. My grandparents came here as babies from Europe. Even after becoming an officer in the Navy and traveling his family to NE and Guam, my grandfather came back here to SM to raise his family. I am proud to drive thru the streets of this town and see people I have known my whole life working shops I've been in, living in homes I've passed a million times. In warm weather my friends and I meet with our kids and our dogs and walk the same streets we wandered as teens, we walk thru the trails of Grant Park and know every back road to the lake front. The streets here are safe, the schools are safe and clean, and people feel safe smiling at their neighbors. People walk to work and know members of my family by last name and year of graduation. It really upsets me to think that our city is being lost to drug addicts and that outsiders believe everyone who lives here must be a drunk or a junkie.... Apparently zipeckery has not traveled past the bars onto the residential streets to see how people in SM live. Most are very neighborly and have beautiful homes and yards... Most have been born and raised here and have come back to give their children the same upbringing of this small close knit community.
