Default Places that take big dogs?

Hi all--

First time poster. My husband and I are considering moving up, if/when we could sell our house in a Dallas suburb. I'd have to go up first and rent (I'd be the one getting the job first), then he'd follow later. Once we're both established in jobs we can look at purchasing somewhere.

My question...we've been in our own home for several years, and have a 100 pound Great Pyrenees, who is my spoiled, pampered baby.

Is anyone familiar with any rental agencies or landlords who have no problem with large dogs? We're not even sure where we'll be living, but I have no problem with commutes, as we live in a suburb that's quite removed now, and have a lengthy one. Anything in Milwaukee will seem miniscule by comparison.

Apartments probably wouldn't be the best solution, as he is a watchdog, and can bark. But he is usually an inside boy, so at least it wouldn't disturb the neighbors if we are in a house.

Any hints welcomed!

You'd have a fairly hard time finding a place in the city that'll take big dogs, esp. in the better parts of the city where'd you actually want to live.

You're probably better off renting a house with a big enough yard for "doggy business" and areas where you're able to walk. Your best bet then, would either to look at house rentals on realtor.com , craigslist, and jsonline.com

The areas to look at with slighly bigger yards would be in Ozaukee County (Mequon, Grafton, Cedarburg), and some of the suburbs in Waukesha County (Brookfield, Elm Grove, New Berlin). These are the farther away suburbs, which probably would dwarf the commutes you currently face. If you're going to look at renting a house in Milwaukee County, look into places in the North Shore (Fox Point, River Hills, Whitefish Bay, Glendale, Shorewood, or the Upper East Side). After that, consider Wauwatosa, parts of West Allis, Greendale, and Franklin.

Good luck in your search.

P.S... You don't see too many Great Pyrenees up here, they'd be most welcome (hopefully by more than one landlord).

Thanks dk--

I've looked at a few of those. Nice to have some other suburbs listed for my perusing pleasure and some other websites. I've been checking craigslist already. Guess I'm doing everything right!

Default sub burbs of milwaukee

Yes the Sub burbs of milwaukee are nice and unaffordable, but you still have to deal with the crappy city of milwaukee where theres a few murders every night. it's pitiful here and i'm packin up my family and movin on out. Kennesaw Ga is rated one of the top 10 citites to move ur family to and has the lowest crime rate in the usa

Not unaffordable for me, but thanks.

I'll question the judgement of anyone looking forward to "movin on up" to Georgia, one of the reddest areas of the country. I'm getting the hell out of the south. I'm just as sick of it here as you are of Milwaukee. To each his own, I guess.

I mean that it depends what type of hell you want to live in-- the nasty, racist, bible-thumping southern kind or the cold old-union-town northern kind.

Personally, I'll take the latter. I'm sick of good ole boys and hypocrites with Jesus fish on their bumpers.

i've done a great deal of research on kennesaw, and found the only bad thing to be so far is traffic in certain areas. Kennesaw is a very diverse area, and every forum i've read about kennesaw, not one person had anything bad to say. maybe it's just texas thats like that or the southern part of Georgia. Kennesaw is way up north.

it looks like kennesaw is the edge of sprawl for atlanta,
atlanta may have less crime,
but it has its fairshare.

im not sure why the hijack of a dog thread to put down milwaukee,
i found the suburbs of milwaukee fine,
i lived in milwaukee, and most people somehow survived the burden
of dealing with such a horrible crappy city.

wink wink,

I have actually lived in Kennesaw for 19yrs. I loved it. Schools are good, everything is close by. When I was married my husband and I moved there in 1986 from California (I grew up in Decatur, GA)and there was hardly anything around, especially around Barrett Pkwy. Town Center Mall had only been there for a couple of years. It's only about 40 minutes north of Atlanta, not a bad drive on a weekend, lol. It is one of the only towns that has a gun law. Like everything else it's growing like crazy. Now I live in Canton and it's growing there too. I also have a Great Pyrenees named Harley and going into an apartment too. I've talked to a Great Pyr Club in Fla, and they apparently do well in an apartment. She has placed some Grt Pyr's in a condo. Especially with the heat here they'd prefer to be inside. They like to be around people too. They don't like storms! So good luck to dkmisol!
