Property Taxes are high for me! I'm moving out!
see attachment.
I pay $5K on a $140,000 thousand dollar assessed house we paid $120,000 for. Almost 1/2 my payment is property taxes and insurance.
It's a joke here. Stay where you are or move south.
Previously, I lived in Cincinnati and had over an acre in Hamilton county. The county of Cincinnati and only paid $1200 on a $150,000 dollar house.
File is 479kb...too big. Anyway, here is the link.

Wow. Gotta love those democrats!
Here in Cedar Rapids you would pay about half that on a $140k house.
Is it that bad in the whole state of WI or just Milwaukee proper?

I live in a northern suburb of Milwaukee--my condo is assessed at $125,000 and I pay less than $1900 per year on property taxes.

That may be true, but for many people, the advantages of saving money would not outweigh the disadvantages of living in Cedar Rapids. But of course, if you prefer Cedar Rapids, then it's a good deal.

I've lived in the south, and property taxes are much lower. But also, schools and universities are worse, parks and public spaces are worse, roads are worse, arts and culture are worse, recycling is worse, and so on and so forth. If none of that stuff matters to you, then go for it!

Pretty much all of Milwaukee (Milwaukee County). I've searched in northern suburbs and west. They are lower, but still high compared to other places I've lived. Even when I lived in another major democrat city like Detroit.
One poster says the parks and roads are worse which is non-sense. Many, many cities have much lower property taxes with nice parks, etc. Their just smarter about spreading the tax burden to those outside of home ownership through a 1/2% higher sales tax, the more expensive car you buy the higher the cost for plates & tags, and so on. There are many ways to generate revenue for a city outside of property taxes. Hopefully, some of the poor suckers who retire in this tax hell will post their remarks. Imagine, my neighbors living on social security and paying these high taxes, and the city has the nerve to fine them for poor upkeep on property.
The city is failing fast, and city data shows those of age groups 25-35 are declining and moving out. Which is me too! Stay in Iowa.

I am some what of an expert in this field. For many years I processed the Real Estate Tax Rolls for many Banks througout the country. As the Files created by the communities were created, I'd pull them in and process them to place the Tax bills onto the Escrow records so that Mortgages using Escrow can properly disburse the tax payments and so that the Escrow Analysis is run properly.
Taxes in the State of Wisconsin are among the highest in the nation. It is compounded in the fact that the Real Estate tax payer seemingly gets nothing for the Huge Amount of Taxes paid.
Do NOT let those who live there and say "you won't notice it" because you will. Believe me you. You'll not only wonder why the taxes are so high, you'll wonder just what it is you are paying for. Really.

We have our share of tax loving democrats in Cedar Rapids. Their latest ruse is that they must raise all our property taxes because of the floods this year. Right dont even think about cutting useless local programs or city services.
Milwaukee has everything going for it except the tax loving democrats. I would live there in a heartbeat over Iowa.

Everywhere in Milwaukee county has very high property taxes. Anyone that disputes this is either in denial, or hasn't lived other places to have a framework to compare. Of course there are a few worse places, but not too many. I hear what my relatives in Oklahoma, Arizona, and other places pay, and I am very jealous. And the services, schools, and everything are generally just as good. In Colorado (large suburb of Denver) several years ago my property tax was $800. I'm thinking the taxes on that house now are probably about $1000. Here in a large suburb of Milwaukee I have an equivalent house, and my taxes are over $3000. We're getting effed here.

Not going to offend me. I very much am a fan of components of living in the Milwaukee metro area, but being in Milwaukee County, my taxes are insane and my services aren't all that different to me to justify the insane excesses.
I just got done living in a fairly low tax area - Albuquerque, NM - and frankly, my services were really no worse in Albuquerque. Libraries there were fine. Trash pickup was actually better than I experience now.
Milwaukee County cuts its own throat via the high taxes. It just does. There are many, many good things going for MKE County...the taxes / spending nature though is not one of them.
