Question's in the title. If a nonresident makes $x of income in Wi, is his/her tax rate lower or higher than a WI resident that makes the same amount?

So, I know WI has tax reciprocity agreements with neighboring states. I don't know if you pay taxes based on the state you live in or work in.

As for property taxes, I know there is a homeowner credit that you can't get if it's not your home. That isn't more than a hundred dollars though. Otherwise the state constitution doesn't allow differing taxation.

Hope that helps a little

I'm a student here in Milwaukee, from out of state. I got a summer job so I plan on surely living here until Summer 2013. I moved here in August and filed returns in my home state and WI for 2011. I'm wondering if it would be worth it to apply for residency here. I'll probably be leaving the area in summer 2013. For 2012 I will not have any income in my home state, it will all be income made in WI and I'm wondering if residency would give me a better tax advantage.
