Menomonee Falls
Hi All -
My husband is going to be working at HD in Menomonee Falls and I know nothing about the area or Wisconsin at all. We currently live in GA, but spent 10 years living in Alaska so weather isn't a concern.
Is Menomonee Falls a nice place to live? We have school-aged kids. Am looking for family-friendly, safe neighborhoods, nothing too urban. We are looking for someplace where houses aren't right on top of each other, even if it means living outside of town, as long as commuting traffic is reasonable.
Any suggestions?
Thanks!

Hi GAGirl -
My suggestion? Menomonee Falls!
MF is, in my opinion, one of the best suburbs of Milwaukee. Probably my 3rd favorite (2nd favorite or even first if considering cost of living). Everything you seem to want I believe you'd find quite well in MF...family-friendly? Check. Safe? Check. Nothing too urban? Check (although, very close/good access to freeways for into MKE and enough retail/restaurants as well). Houses definitely are not on top of each other - decent green spaces for sure. Good schools. While not cheap, fairly affordable compared to many of the more upscale suburbs.
MF is just really a nice suburb to live in. I think from your description it would suit you guys perfectly.
Good luck!

Hello,
I agree with the other poster. Menomonee Falls has been growing like crazy over the past 5 years or so so you can find lots of new housing stock. The schools are consistently rated high, crime rate is low, There are plenty of retail areas now, churches, really anything you'd want, and it is a quick ride into Milwaukee if you enjoy going to the symphany, ballet, theatre, fabulous art museum, etc. When it is not rush hour, it is about a 20 minute commute to downtown. It is an easy ride to get to the zoo. If you want a slightly more rural atmosphere, just look slightly to the west or northwest of MF.
Germantown is the suburb that abuts MF to the north. You drive from one to the other without really realizing it. You might want to check into the tax rates to see if it would cost less to live in one over the other. A realtor should be able to tell you that.
You really can't go wrong if you stay in a ten mile radius of where your husband will be working.

I'd agree with the above...nothing wrong with Da Falls itself.
It's "out there" for you but still close enough to get to the city in reasonable 20 minute drive or so. Your location is NW burb of Milwaukee. If you want houses not next to one another...pick here, or Germanatown next to it....or head slightly South...to the West burbs and out from there. ....and these are the areas you would be seeking.

But, MF is soooo expensive with taxes, housing cost and utilities. Living cost is 3 to 5 thousand more per year than Dls, or other cities in Texas. I would retire there because of inlaws, but not sure I could afford it. Because of the milder weather we have months here that does not require heat or A/C. Not as pretty perhaps, but lots cheaper!
