I am relocating to Milwaukee from Indianapolis; I am a single professional lady in my mid 40s.
I am used to downtown living and like to have access to all the city has to offer -- close to shops, bars, restaurants, arts, sports, etc. Staying fit is important as well -- so proximity to boot camps, gyms, etc. is key.

I would love recommendations for which part of town I should live.
I've read about several areas but would love input from those of you who really know.

Thanks so much for taking a minute to help me!

The East Side fits many of your criteria. It is somewhat influenced by the nearby university, so if you want to avoid student crowds it might be the wrong place.

I grew up there, but have been gone 17 years, and am considering moving back.
I'm 50.
What I've been advised is to look at the upper/lower eastside, Murray Hill, Walkers Point, and Bay View.
Keep us posted as to what you decide.
It'll help others and best of luck!

I would consider the Lower East Side for you. Not as many college students and you're within walking distance to downtown as well as grocery stores like Pick n' Save and Metro Market. I actually had a nice little studio for under $500/mo right next to St. Catherine's on Knapp between Astor & Franklin Pl. So the rent can be cheap in the area if you're not too "needy" like a lot of people on the Forums. And this wasn't a dump either btw. It just isn't a huge place, it's simply a regular sized urban studio. You get what you pay for in other words. :/

To the original poster, the Third Ward would probably be a great fit. Otherwise you can go west to as far as 6th and north as far as Brady for the city lifestyle. If you go any further north or west you start getting into the dark side of milwaukee. If you go south dont go any further than florida unless you are on the east side of the river.

Third ward 1 bedrooms are around $1500+. Much of the houseing in the Third ward include owned condos that price $500,000 and up, so you will be in the company of many well established individuals that care for their neighborhood. Extreme North East Walkers Point (sometimes reffered to as the fifth ward) is a little cheaper than the Third ward, but you need to limit yourself to a few blocks from the Third ward or things start to get a little sketchy.
