Don't any of you ever listen to Bill Cosby or other blacks (not just entertainers) that are successful? They certainly don't harp on how the govenment keeps or perpetuates poverty. I think of things I've read about Cabrini Green some families and some good that came out of there. Families with 5, 6 even 8 kids, all college grads and all successful. As Drover says it can be done.
Seeing the very young pregnant teenagers parade by my house in Waukegan from a nearby apartment complex makes you wonder and certainly you can't blame government for that. Ten years ago when that apartment complex was built it was great, a virtual United Nations, Abbott employees from all over the world, the Navy let people be there,
now you should see it, not a good thing. Police cars there all the time and on the Navy's black list because of all the drug problems.
I lived in Park City over 30 yrs. never a problem, when that apartment complex started going downhill I had a robbery at my house, a shooting right next door to me. I intended to stay, I was happy there but not once I felt threatened. I started out in Evanston, lived in Mundelein and Waukegan, I didn't mind Illinois but I left when it started deteriorating around me. At 60 I need to feel I can walk outside my house at night to put out the garbage without bullets flying.
