I hate those mega-churches with rock music and idiotic charismatic pastors. Why can't people just be Methodists, Lutherans, and Catholics anymore? Those new-school churches are so hokey and cheesy they turn off anyone with half a brain.

looking for church
danadavid;I am prayerfully considering starting a new church in the area, maybe 20 mins from mequon. I have lived here my whole life and it is pretty sad out there in the way of churches. I definitely see an awesome praise ministry, and loud too with upbeat christian music! The uncompromised word of God must be preached and children and youth ministries as well. Many people may already be in place for this, so say a prayer or two.

If you are in Mequon, you should travel south a few minutes to Shoreland Community Church in Brown Deer. The worship is incredible. The preaching is challenging and Biblical. If you are in your 20's, I also would consider Epikos, which was recommended by an earlier poster. If I'm not mistaken, Shoreland actually helped start that church.

Why share the wealth? Religion is a thriving business.

seriously, it's a great way to make money
I am forming my own religion, with no roles and rules, no political ties,no cultural brainwashing...just unrestricted pleasure and hedonism
I don't think I will have any competition.

Starting Your Own Religion
Sorry Arkadin- Someone beat you to that one already. It's called Humanism. Although, you are right - many people have used religion to make money, brain wash people gain power, persecute others, justify their evil etc. That's why it's really not about religion. It's about a relationship with God but that's up to us to seek. My God has given us free will to choose to love Him or not. I wish you all the best.

Bless their hearts. I personally don't like to attend mega churches but that's just a personal feeling. I'm sure they are doing a great work for the Lord. One question I submit respectfully. Is the worship in Wisconsin in the smaller churches just a cultural thing or what is going on? I've been to so many churches but I'm used to "Southern" style worship where the congregation actual interacts with God and comes alive. The churches around here are so quiet. If I happen to say Amen or Praise the Lord even in a lower voice people look at me like I'm some kind of alien. I'm used to actually singing along with the worship team and lifting my voice to the Lord but around here people seem to look up at the screen and mouth the words. What's up? Pastors have actually told me that the congregation is not ready for that when I tried to teach the worship team a good old fashion southern gospel clap you hands and stomp your feet hymn. The only rise I see is when the pastor makes some reference to the Packers. Then they come alive with Amens. I feel like a fish out of water here. If we're going to spend eternity together my brothers and sisters I need to understand you. Help me. Sometimes I think there's a pole or something stuck up your back sides. Loosen up and shout a little joy. Dance a little! Church should be joyous, making a joyful noise and worshiping God above all - not sing three songs, pray quietly, sit down, sermon, offering, pot luck. go home to our lives not changed a bit to face another burden filled week. Help me not feel so alone.
