Default near south side

I used to live on 19th and lincoln and many people seem to think that the area is a little rough. i have been to the areas on the near south side (from national to lincoln) and it seems to be getting much worse. Do you think the south side crime is any where near bad parts of the north side, or is it still relativly safe

The City Compass Map Viewer gives crime statistics for all the neighborhoods. It is a useful tool but don't use it to drive yourself numb with fear. Statistics are funny things and you just can't take raw numbers to define how bad a neighborhood is.

I would say as have lived on 20th and Becher, that during the day you're okay with nothing to worry about. At night walking down the street alone is not a good idea. I would say some areas are getting worse like Oklahoma north to Cleveland Ave, but areas as Walker's Point are up and coming very fast. I would be a little weary of areas along Greenfield.Ave and National.Ave between 13th and 38th streets.
