Bus drivers to strike Wednesday after 11th-hour negotiations fail

So today begins day one of the strike... Set to be 72 hours.

Anyone here affected by it?
Does it change how you feel about the upcoming streetcar?
Are you for or against the strike?

I know a good number of people who use the buses, and they've all gotten together via social media (reddit has been a big contributer) in order to pool rides and help out. Would be a bigger issue if prolonged, but for now it seems workable.

Unions can strike, it's their prerogative, I have no problem with that. It's too bad that they leverage people's jobs/lives (in this specific case) in order to get longer bathroom breaks & whatever, but yeah...hopefully there's a compromise soon.

MCTS should have paid up... What are riders supposed to do with their weekly passes now that half of it will go unused? No refund I assume.
Riders will find alternative ways in getting to where they need to be and a good chunk might not come back to the buses because of this.
Right in the middle of Summerfest no less.

For anyone reading this thread in disgust because their trip to Summerfest is now hacked, do not fret.

Many of the local bars have FREE shuttles as long as you buy a drink (or similar). Drive down to one of these places, park for free, grab a beer (or something else, if you don't/can't drink), and jump on the shuttle. If you're like me, you'll be cursing out this union while on the way to the Summerfest grounds and you'll be there in no time!

Are there actually people that would've gone to summerfest at night if there were buses but aren't going now.

I might have been one of them. I used to park on 76th at State Fair and take the bus down. I highly doubt I would go if I had to deal with the parking/drunks/construction

There would probably be some more people, yes. But for the over 21 crowd, the bar buses are a better way to go, honestly. I use them for Brewers games & pretty much everything where I'll be drinking and parking will be a pain. I have several options within walking distance of my house, though, and I know some people aren't as close.

The list above is only a partial - I know of 2 bars within a few blocks of my house that run Summerfest buses and aren't on there, as well, and I'm sure this goes for many neighborhoods....
