There are alot of good things about Brown Deer but go to the school rankings and Brown Deer is in the bottom third. This does not make sense since I have two sons who graduated from Brown Deer and are college graduates with good jobs. What is going on
are alot of the students not from Brown Deer? According to my research Brown Deer is top heavy with administration. Maybe it is time for Brown Deer to look to combine with another North Shore District like Bayside/River Hills or Glendale because we are all loosing students and importing students from other areas. How about merging our 4th of July with Glendale both are having trouble getting money to cover the cost and to get volunteers. These are just my thoughts.

I don't know much about the Wisconsin school system other than I suspect it is better than many other places.

Shorewest Realtors - Property Details
not to nit pick but, this home selling for 274K has $10,000 in property taxes a year? seem a little high? especially 1/2 mile away a home sells for 174K and proprty taxes are only 2,800 a year.

If that figure seems a little odd, that's because it is wrong. Brown Deer has a mill rate of $22.43 per $1K of assessed value (which, while on the high end is still outside of the top quartile of Milwaukee County), so for that house to have $9,894 in property taxes last year, their assessment would have to have been around $441K. However, according to the village website, the assessed value for land + improvements at that location is more around $360K, which would put the tax bill around $2K less (and $2K less to deduct off of your federal taxes as well...).
Incidentally, where is the 174K house located? My guess is somewhere in Ozaukee County.

I figured it had to be wrong, it just didn't come close to making sense. The house I was comparing it to is only 4-5 blocks west.

woops!!! it actually is 5K in taxes. How can a house one house be 175K and 5,500 in taxes and the other 175K home have 4,400 in taxes ? then you will see a home for 170K and 6,000 in taxes so what do they use when

The numbers you are seeing are only the asking prices, not assessed values. Taxes are based off of assessed value appropriated by the taxing authority. That's why there's such a disparity of numbers. Some sellers list way over value, while others absolutely have to sell and are listed under the assessed value.

What would you say the average value for a home in Brown Deer would be?

That is how I see it. I have friends of the family in Brown Deer. They apparently like the place. I think the bashing of Brown Deer is partially racial.
