Smile Preschools near Brookfield

We are relocating from Pittsburgh to the Wauwatosa/Brookfield area (husband just accepted a job at Children's) and are trying to find a preschool for our son, who'll be four in August. Does anyone know anything about St. Aemilian's Preschool in Wauwatosa? What about the program at Brookfield Academy? Any other recommendations? Right now he goes to a very good preschool five days a week, six hours a day (no, it's not day care!), so we'd love to have something similar for him in Milwaukee.

Also, are there any other areas besides Brookfield and Wauwatosa that we should be looking at in terms of housing? My husband wants to be no more than 10-15 minutes from work, but I want to be in a good school district.

Sorry. Lath, I didn't see your post earlier than this! You have good information, though...Brookfield Academy is very good! Besides, Brookfield and Wauwatosa, there is Elm Grove and New Berlin. Maybe, it's too late and you've already moved! If so, let us know where you ended up!

Brookfield academy is great. If you move a bit further out to the Lake Country(Hartland, Pewaukee, Delafield) area University Lake School has a great program as well.

I have really good things about St. Aemilian's. A friend who belongs to my gym sends her two kids there and she has been really happy with it. I'm assuming your hubby will be a physician at children's...Mine just finished his residency there and we will be moving out of state in July if not earlier. Brookfield is a beautiful area. I mainly go out there for shopping purposes because everything is right off of Bluemound rd. One of the main drags in Brookfield. We live in Wauwatosa in one of the neighborhoods just east of the medical college. It's called the Glenview Heights area and I can't tell you how blessed I have been for living here. There are two main schools in my neighborhood. St. Jude which is where I would send my kids if we were staying or Wilson which has K-4 and is an awesome public school. Our neighborhood is filled with great families.

In terms of the school search, my son is also starting K-4 in the fall and in the research I did here (prior to deciding to move) it is VERY difficult to find a K-4 that is all day. Right now, my son goes to Mother's Day Out in Elm Grove twice a week for 5 hours a day. Next year, the K-4 program would be 4 time a week for 5 hours a day. It is located in the Community United Methodist church. We have loved it there and it is nice and small. the learning is grounded in faith (I'm Catholic) and we have been so pleased with it. It sounds like a day care, but it's not at all.

If you have any questions at all and want to pick someones brain that has been here and LOVED it for 4 years, let me know.

Talking Thanks!

Thank you for all your great replies - we will be visiting the area at the end of the month to (hopefully!) find a house and will check out schools then. We can't wait!

Lath, we are in the same boat. We just came back yesterday from Milwaukee to check out the area. We are relocating there in July(my husband accepted a job at a private practice)We saw a couple of nice houses in Wauwatosa but we didn't want to rush into buying so we will probably end up signing a lease(maybe in Brookfield). My daughter will turn 4 in July so i'm trying to find her a good preschool/junior K as well. Unfortunately,we were not able to check out any of the schools. Let me know what happens to your search.

ktroy52502,

we really wanted to rent a house at first but found that the choices were really limited and will probably end up leasing for 6-9 mo and then buy once we get to know the neighborhoods better. there seems to be alot of neighborhood associations. which ones do you think are the best to buy in and which areas should we avoid when we do decide to buy in wauwatosa. also are we too late for open enrollment in wauwatosa's junior-k schools?
