Anyway - I hope you find happiness in Dane County whenever you can get there.
Statistics show that African Americans get pulled over at alarmingly higher rates than white people.

Also, I recommend you to peruse these articles: https://www.nytimes.com/2016/08/21/u...-families.html

I would go in-depth about my experience with racism in the WOW counties, but all you're going to do is regard my claims as paranoia and victimization. Again, ignorance about race is partly why racial disparities are barely improving. I stopped arguing with deniers a long time ago, and I shall not start again.

Well that's what happens when you go to a public forum. Not everyone is buying what others are selling.

I am not going to claim there is no racism in Waukesha just like it would be silly to claim all of Dane county is diversity loving and embraces others.

What I do know is when we lived in Waukesha county, we knew and were friends with many minority families who liked living there. In fact one couple we know well moved there from Memphis specifically to get away from what he called his family's "perpetual black victim status." They did not want their children raised in that environment.

Don't call me ignorant because I see the world differently than you. Worrying about racism in Waukesha county is silly and counterproductive to living a good life. I repeat - if you want to find it - it is there. That goes for any place.

Waukesha is the most livable place to live in Wisconsin based on "three dozen socioeconomic measures." Only 1 other city in Wisconsin made the list.

Meh, I know a lot of locals of "The Shaw" love it but you could pay all of my property taxes forever and I still wouldn't live there. It's just boring to me, I need to be near water or woods and away from typical suburbia. Even though Waukesha is a stand alone city, it just doesn't trip the tip-up for me.

If the OP is still around, I'll give you my two cents. We're currently moving to the Milwaukee area next month. We had the same wants as you. We're landing in Shorewood (check it out) but we also looked at Wauwatosa. Considering you'll be working on the west side, Tosa may be the best bet for you. There are some nice strips with local restaurants and shops and good schools. Prices are a little cheaper there than in Shorewood.

Or you can join this new family in settling in Shorewood.

"Just be happy, it's so easy!" - ugh, white people amirite

You are not going to get blatant racism very often in Waukesha County. That's why people like ccjarider tell you it's rare. What you will get is a lack of diversity to the extent that people just don't interact with minorities enough to understand how they have it different in many ways. If you've seen the movie "Get Out," you'll know what I'm talking about.

Baloney.

Few people are buying into the idea that because they may not be black, (or Muslim or female or gay or disabled or whatever) that they are not entitled to opinions, ideas and action.
Of course in this age of identity politics; that is what power mongers on the left want folks to think. Fortunately, most are not falling for it.

Overall - Waukesha is GENERALLY, a pretty darn nice places to live. I can see where some would think it is boring and I can see where some may prefer other places. But evilly racist?? - nonsense.

There is racial profiling going on in the Milwaukee metro area. 4 years ago, my brother and I were stopped by a policeman merely for pulling into the parking lot of an elementary school in New Berlin. We were questioned and after I asked if the officer had any legal reason to "harass" us in this manner, he left. Quite the lack of tact and lack of sophistication in the area, but after all, this is New Berlin we're talking about. My expectations weren't high. A few years ago, the New Berlin mayor was called a "n**ger lover" by one of the New Berlin residents for his housing development proposals. My niece has a job in Brookfield and has had racial slurs hurled at her on many occasions.

Why is it so hard to admit that racial bias and bigotry still exist? Why does acknowledging that fact make you so uncomfortable? Please Google "driving while black" to give you some perspective. It is not just some "liberal-hyped" phenomenon. It is very real.
