Too late, you're already there. Your murder rate is higher and your robbery and assault rates are pretty much even.

Default Hell Yea Milwaukee has a gang problem!!! ROFL

Milwaukee has a gang problem. Most gang activity stays away from the main downtown area. Just north although is a way different story. Cherry St. is probably one of the worst streets in that neighborhood. The gangs in that area are mainly African-American gangs. When you go to the south part of the city near Mitchell Int, it is mainly hispanic gangs. Then way to the north part of the city it is mainly African-American gangs. West part I'm not exactly sure.

Unfortunaly, cities such as Fond du Lac (where I'm from) 45 min. north are getting gang activity now too from Milwaukee. Other cities getting gang problems from Milwaukee are Racine 15 min. south, Kenosha 20 min. south, Sheboygan 50 min. north and Oshkosh 55 min. north. *Drive times are estimated and other cities such as Madison are getting more gangs.

LOL!!!

Default Moving to Milwaukee

I am moving to Milwaukee, probably Washington Heights neighborhood on 57th at Burleigh. Is this a safe neighborhood? I am caucasion and have heard the area is really segregated. I love to live in a diverse neighborhood but will it be safe for me here?

Much of the gang activity in Milwaukee, Racine, Kenosha, etc., comes from Chicago--similar to gang diffusion during in the midwest during the 1920s and 1930s.

57th and Burleigh is NOT Washington Heights....that would be the westernmost part of the Sherman Park or St Joseph's neighborhood. Washington Heights is south of North Avenue.

Sherman Park is one of the most integrated neighborhoods in the City. It is relatively safe. I am white and my family has lived just east of there forever....never have had any problems. If you're looking for an area with a great housing stock, relatively low prices, integrated and relatively safe, I can't think of a better area around here.

Southside gangs are more likely to attack each other and northside gangs are more likely to target innocent people. I grew up on S.20th 'n Becher and really didn't have any problems with the Latin Kings, 2-1's, Mp's, C-14's,MS-18's,MS-13's, Simon City Royals, IG'z, Spanish Cobras. Southside gangs are highly organized and northside gangs have a lot of feuding inside of their own gangs. The northside of Milwaukee has more of a drug problem and a lot of the crime isn't from gang members but fiends. The northside has a lot of indivdual thugs as opposed to the southside where most of them are in a gang or crew. Crews are a lot more popular on the southside they are comprised of people from a certin street and are formed as a way to protect themselves from gangs and typically are non-violent but only exsist as a way to have back-up as need be. Too many people on the southside confuse graffiti art for gang symbols. 95% of the graffiti on the southside is done by taggers out to get a "rep" and are part of a "graf Krew" also non-violent. My two pennies.

The refrence to Mitchell Intl is false. The airport is bordered by Cudahy, St. Francis, Oak Creek, and far south side of Milwaukee. Gangs are not around Mitchell Intl airport. Perhaps Mitchell St on the near south side but not Mitchell Intl.
