Taxes
I've noticed on several threads the mention of awful taxes, I live in Oregon. We are looking a transferring to the area because of work, and Oregon doesn't have sales tax. We do however have State tax which is awful. If any of you could give me an example of the taxes, it would be very helpful.
Thank you,
tj

Hold onto your wallet. Almost 7% income. $1.75/ pack of cigs. Close to 40 cents/gal. on gas. Property taxes are heading towards the moon and fees (that can't be deducted on 1040 sched. A) are being added and raised at every turn. Other than that, come on over, misery loves company.

It could be worse. I saw in another thread in some counties of Virginia there is an annual vehicle property tax equivalent to what we pay every time we buy a car.
I think the day that people stop expecting the government to do everything is the day that taxes will start to go down. Effective and strong neighborhood watch groups could cut the need for police patrols. Strong PTA involvement help to offset school costs. Stronger citizen involvement in local politics could lead to less nitwits with "bright ideas" which end up costing us all lots of money from ever getting elected. Citizens need to take back the government for their own interests at the neighborhood level.

WI has high taxes it is true. It continually rates near the top for all 50 states. I lived there a long time and I think it goes back to the heavy central European immigration into the state.

Generally the people of WI desire big government to be involved in may elements of life from big expensive schools to huge road projects paid by the ridiculously high gas tax to Madison political cronies.
If it is low taxes, you are looking for, do NOT come to WI.

Well it wouldn't be a choice, we would be transferred because of job advancement. So we are just trying to get as much information as possible so we can make an educated decision on the purchase of a home, and the area. It sounds like a very nice place to live, just a little cold. We would have to get used to the humidity though, Oregon doesn't have a problem with that at all.
