I am originally from Brooklyn, NY. I moved to Omaha 3 years ago because the cost of living was significantly lower than it was in NY (I know, captain obvious, right?). I love the Midwest and spend off time exploring new places and things. I’ve found it easy to make friends and socialize with pretty much everyone. I am a single male in my early 40s and an RN.

As much as I love it here, I have a chance to relocate to Milwaukee, for better hours and a better salary. I was curious to know about the safety of the area surrounding Walker’s Point. There seems to be nice places to rent in that area and is very close to the hospital I will be working. I have until the first week of February to accept the offer. I’d be coming and going to work at all hours...anyone familiar with that area? Any alternatives if that isn’t a safe place to come home at 3am after being awake for 24 hours lol....I would appreciate feedback. Thank you.

I can't comment on Walker's Point, but I will say that the quality of life in southeast Wisconsin is the best anywhere in the U.S. in my opinion. It's a good choice for both lifestyle and career in my book.

Good luck with your move!

Walker's Point itself is a cool area. Directly to the west and northwest are where the neighborhoods start to get more rough.
Areas right along the lakefront are all generally nice. Bayview to the south is a pretty cool trendy area. St. Francis is a nice affordable suburb next to that, but there's not much there.
Milwaukee is a compact metro so most places aren't going to be much of a commute. In land area, it seems somewhat similar to Omaha, just with more people.
I've never been a fan of the higher taxes than I'm used to, but Wisconsin is a pretty nice state all in all.

Walker's Point is generally quite safe, especially the northeastern part adjacent to the Third Ward. Will you be working at Aurora? That area's fine enough (mostly industrial/post-industrial and commercial with some small houses in the area), but most of the better apartments and condos (and things to do) are along the Milwaukee River, east of 2nd St., and extending south several blocks. I know someone at Aurora who lives in the Artisan (apts on 2nd and Pittsburgh) and enjoys it. If I worked in Walker's Point and wanted an apartment or condo, I'd definitely live in that area. There are some interesting houses for sale and rent, as well, but if you're going to do a house, I'd recommend Bay View nearby.

Walker Point is one of nightlife focal points of Milwaukee... It's totally safe, but could be a bit loud, especially at night. Good thing is that Milwaukee has nearly no traffic jams and you can get from point A to point B within 30 minutes from one end to another.

I love Walker's Point, having lived there for 10 years before I moved to Mequon. I say move there! One of my favorite things about The 5th Ward or Walker's Point is that it's a very busy part of town, even on the weekends it didn't quiet down until well after 3. It's not a 24 hour kinda vibe but in the summer on the weekends and during summerfest it doesn't go to sleep until 4am. I love the old buildings and the feel of the area. You'll love it!
