Default Milwaukee High School of the Arts?

my daughter is going there this fall. Is it a good school? I know some city schools really aren't good.

Just making sure my child has a good education.

Good Teachers, but administration is AWFUL. The new principal is clueless and his supporting team are not much better.

I agree with PP- my daughter went there as well and as hard as she worked to get in, the Admin should have been better. At least as good as the students...The ADMIN SUCKED!!! I don't know if they are still there or not, but in particular Mr. Humphrey-pricipal and Ms Allison had no clue how to run the school. There is at least one instance of a student not getting what they should have because Ms Allison didn't like her. Didn't matter how hard the student worked or what she deserved. Ms Allison didn't care and rewarded a student who was below par because she "liked" her.

On the plus side, my daughter was on the Comedy Sports team. VP of her class, on the paper and went on to MN for school. She went to a school that was diverse and learned more then I could teach her about tolerence and accepting others and how not to see people as a color, religion. gender.

I would keep track of what the ADMIN does and I hope your daughter enjoys her time there!

I graduated from MHSA in 2006. Mr. Humphrey is no longer the principal however I am unsure of Mrs. Allison. I never had any trouble with Mrs. Allison however there was no reason for me to see her. Usually you would need to be in some sort of trouble to see her. At this school, you will get THE BEST education in the arts; better than some colleges. Also, the school in of the top in the city. Everyone is the school is very tolerable and friendly to each other and there really aren't cliques which is a major plus for me. However, I would encourage that your child enrolls in the AP and Honors courses to get the best academic education. The school has such a small budget that they have a high teacher turn over rate for teachers that don't teacher AP and Hnors courses. Well, this is what I have noticed. I took both regular and AP and Honors courses and I would have to say that the advanced class were so much better. The regular courses seemed to be mediocore. Overall, this is a great school to attend, esspecially if you are passionate in the arts. The school is making a great and effective reform. Good luck!
