Unhappy Advice on pet-friendly short-term apartment or budget hotel?

We are moving from Europe to Milwaukee in a couple of weeks and are looking for a place to stay the first few days while we look for an apartment. We will be with our cat, what I think will make things a little more difficult. Right now, we have only find something affordable for the first night. From that date on, the cheapest option I've found in metro Milwaukee is 140$ per day. I've found a corporate housing in Wauwatosa (80 $ day), but how much time (and money) it could take to arrive to downtown form there?

Any other suggestions or advice?

I've contacted a lot of apartment communities but most of them have not replied (and the rest to say no). Maybe email is not a good idea and I should Skype them?

Less urgently, I've starting looking for a permanent apartment in Craiglist and Rent.com. Any other suggestions? We think that we would like to live downtown, lower eastside...

I wanted to ask you how much time do you think it can take to find a place and move into it, taking into account if they have to check on us or something. Most of the places are not furnished, are they?

Thanks!

Try Homestead Studios in Brookfield. They are reasonable, let you have a pet and have a kitchenette.

Brookfield is right outside Milwaukee - maybe 20 minutes away. Very safe and lots of shopping around.

Cheers!
