I am now 21 years old and I attended this school after trying three different schools before it after my family relocated to Milwaukee. I would have to say that the decision to enroll me in the school was truly the best decision that they have ever made for me. It has changed my life for the best! Not only was I introduced to a plentiful variety of arts, I was introduced to a diverse group of loving and caring people. Attending this elementary school helped me to get me ahead in the game with academics and the arts. In addition, the educators here really do have a passion for the arts and they share there passion with each student in an individual and effective fashion. One of the most valuable aspect of this school is that every teacher cares for each and every student and that makes all the difference. I still speak with my fifth grade teacher, Mrs. Johnson. I will never forget when my family was going through a personal tragedy how she went out of her way to make sure that I was doing well by making phone call to me home in the evening and weekends until things got better. All of these elements have made me what I am today. I am currently in my junior year of college studying to become a Music Educator and I can say with great confidence that I am a very strong, smart, educated, independent, proud, motivated and cultured person much in part from the experiences that I had at Elm Creative Arts.

I don't have much to add beyond what Megan wrote, but Elm Creative Arts is known as one of the real bright spots of MPS. They've got great leadership and terrific results.

When people say things like "the schools in Milwaukee are terrible," they're leaving out the excellent schools like Elm Creative Arts. There are great schools in the city of Milwaukee. Dozens of great schools.

But you're not going to hear about Elm Creative Arts on the local TV "news." You're not going to hear about it on talk radio. Because what goes on there is not sensational. It's a great school where kids learn. So it doesn't get any attention in the local media, who would rather focus on the large group fights that regularly occur in the more problematic MPS high schools.

I don't know too many specifics about the school, but I am a docent at the Milwaukee Art Museum and we love having the kids from Elm Creative Arts come for tours. All interactions I have had with the teachers and parents have been delightful and the kids are terrific. They are respectful of one another and others, of the work in the museum and they are a pleasure to be around. I truthfully cannot say that about many of the other schools that come to visit the museum!
