Default The move is on!!

We finally flew to WI last week to look for housing, we looked four straight days, and only one house jumped out at us. I may be flying back out this week to look one more time. Our move will final move will happen by the end of August.

I have to say, it wasn't what I expected. Living in Oregon all my life, and never seeing WI, I was surprised. It is very green which is good, the roads are in poor shape, probably due to the winters, but the people are friendly. Every town looked the same, which is so different from Oregon.

We put an offer in on a house in Vernon, which is 10 minutes from where Jason's job is in New Berlin. The hardest thing was finding houses that would allow RV parking, and were quality built.

We have been looking in Waukesha county because of his job, but are wondering if it is a good county to live in? What towns in Waukesha county are considered good places to live? Which have the better schools for resale purposes?

I have to say that we got a kick out the the ski hill. I would love for all Wisconsinites to visit Oregon or Colorado and see what we call skiing. At least we will have a little something to look forward to, and won't have to worry about blowing out a knee skiing. I think I will take up cross country skiing, a little safer I think.

I've read on this forum that jobs are hard to come by, my only hope is that I do find a job. Being from out of state looks like it could hurt me, even though my fathers family is originally from Wisconsin.

Thanks to all who helped us through the past two months with your responses, we will be in your midst soon.

TJ

1. The road situation may not get any better, unfortunately. Funding is short right now, so I've heard that they may only fix main roads and leave the rest. Then again, if this coming winter is at all like last winter, there may be no point in fixing the roads at all.

2. Waukesha County is nice...some parts are suburban, but much of it has a more rural feel. It's known for having a significantly more conservative population than Milwaukee proper. As for resale potential...how long are you planning to stay in town for? Because honestly, with the real estate market as it is, you probably won't make big gains no matter where you buy.

3. The job market is tough...I have friends who went to top schools in the state and still have had a hard time. Being from out-of-state isn't going to rule you out completely when it comes getting jobs, but WI does tend to be a bit provincial...if you're from familiar backgrounds, you're more likely to get hired a lot of the time. Since your dad is from WI, do you by chance have the accent? If so, that could maybe help.

No I am sorry, no accent. Actually our realestate agent said I had a valley girl accent....lol.... I don't have a valley girl accent, that is LA, California not Oregon. I am not married yet, but I have been considering using my maiden name and my married name. At least they would see I am part German.

I have a feeling that jobs will be hard to come by, but I won't know until I get there.

We will be there two years, and are having a hard time just getting enough out of our house to purchase a house there. So worst case scenerio is that we would have to rent. With two dogs, that I think would be a problem. Going from a 2400 sq ft home, with a pool to a rental. Wow, what we have given up.
