Actually, it should bother people. Not in the least due to human decency, but also because it's a negative reflection of the city/area in which they reside.

This sounds like something Hunter S. Thompson would have done.

MILWAUKEE - A Milwaukee man was accused of shooting his lawn mower because it wouldn't start. Keith Walendowski, 56, was charged with felony possession of a short-barreled shotgun or rifle and misdemeanor disorderly conduct while armed.

According to the criminal complaint, Walendowski said he was angry because his Lawn Boy wouldn't start Wednesday morning. He told police quote, "I can do that, it's my lawn mower and my yard so I can shoot it if I want."
A woman who lives at Walendowski's house reported the incident. She said he was intoxicated.
Walendowski could face up to an $11,000 fine and six years and three months in prison if convicted.
A call to Walendowski's home went unanswered Friday morning

Sounds like a dumb reason to send someone to jail. Shooting a lawn mower? Big deal. He didn't shoot a person. Sounds like an assault on the 2nd Amendment.

Well, no, he didn't shoot someone. However, shooting a lawn mower? That bullet could've richocheted into someone's head. Besides, it's just plain moronic!

Perhaps it is moronic, but sending someone to jail for being a moron is kind of stupid. He has the right to own a gun and that right is protected under the 2dn amendment. No one got hurt, not even the shooter. If I saw you shooting a lawn mower and I was a law enforcement officer, I would sit and watch, but I wouldn't arrest you. As long as you don't shoot anyone or anyone's property, I don't see the criminality in it. If the bullet rcochets off of someone's head, then the worse I would charge you for is reckless endangerment. If the person dies and it is an accident, I wouldn't charge you with murder. I know I might sound irrational to some people, but I know what it's like for someone to call the police on me because I looked "criminally strange", meaning it wasn't illegal, but it just didn't look right. Some people may call it "conscientious" to call the police as a "preventative" measure> I cal it wasting a cop's time, especially when the cop could spend his/her time aiding someone who may have been the victim of a real crime such as spousal abuse, robbery, etc.
