I hate Wisconsin. It's freezing and boring. New Berlin isn't a bad area though. When I vacation in warm places or places where's there are things to do, I am happy.

Default You are not alone.

You are not alone!!

I recently moved to Brookfield from a southern state and have exactly the same feeling as you.

I have live in several southern states for 10 years and was always surrounded by happy people, everywhere! I once assumed that American people are all like that. Now I know I am wrong.

Talking about "conservative", southern people are more conservative, but they are welcoming to outsiders. And I don't think weather can be an excuse for being gloomy. I grew up in an older area in Asia and people there are happy.

For the most part, this is only true when the outsiders share (or potentially share) similar values. I lived in a small southern city for two years--my neighbors were all sugar and honey with me until they found out that I'm not religious and don't care to go to church. At that point, they just ignored me. A co-worker of mine from the area pretty much gave me the cold shoulder for 16 months, until he found out that my mom was born and raised nearby. All of a sudden, I was acceptable to him. Another outsider living down the street from me had to leave a local gardening club because her religious beliefs didn't fit in with those of the locals in the club--they basically ostracized her until she quit. And the list of experiences goes on and on. Fortunately, not all southerners are like that, but I haven't found that level of hypocrisy among Wisconsinites. Here, people usually start out kind of cool, but then warm up after a while--and they're not fake about it.

Well I can only say the I will be there in three weeks. The house in Oregon sold this past weekend, and our house there closes on the 15th of September. I am sure that I will be very busy when I arrive with the house and looking for work. Our new home is in Eagle, which is very small compared to where we are from. I will do my best to be who I've always been. I love life and all kinds of people, so I hope to find some excitement there, even if I have to create it.

Eagle is a small town and (sorry to say) just a wee bit backward but you will find good people. There areas has seen an influx of new homes for commuters so you will be able to find people from all over.

Yes we are realizing that Eagle is small, and because of the job market, wish we know would have bought up North in the Jackson area. Both small areas, but more job opprotunities or at least closer job opprotunities.

It will all work out, I will just have to work hard at it.

good luck to you and family!
Get out and enjoy the southern kettle moraine this autumn.
There are some very pretty areas.

We used to live in Palmyra 20 years ago. the townsfolk were weird, but scenery was nice

Now we live in suburbs of Chicago. Hard to find quiet areas here and there are way too many rules.

Enjoy WI while you are there. It is a pretty cool place in our opinion.

I'm pretty sure you can do a lot worse than wisconsinites. Problem is people from WI don't talk much in general and when they do it usualy something mundane, boring and meaningless, but I wouldn't go as far as calling them unfriendly.

Check out the north shore area. Shorewood, Whitefish bay and Bayside. We are in Seattle now and I was raised in WI. I do find people to be a lot more ready to talk to strangers and put a smile on here in the North West. But I'm overly social so I ended up forcing it out of the Wisconsiners too. Just takes more work.

New Berlin is pretty but once you see the Northshore area I think you will feel more at home. It is not that bad a drive to work.

- now I see you already found a place. Enjoy!
