As most of you know that read the Milwaukee page, I tried to find a job here for a while upon separating from the military, and I had no luck. Then to come across a article like this makes my blood boil. I was able to find a job in no time at all in another state. I know the economy is bad, but this study is outrageous to me. I'm sure most people will want to ignore this, but take a look at what the city has become.

"In this detailed study, bright, articulate, college students posed as job applicants. Even though the results were strikingly close, black men without criminal records were called back only 14% of the time, while whites with criminal records were called back 17% of the time."

Wow, that is a huge difference: 17% to 14%. This study is a joke.

"The study, titled "The Mark of a Criminal Record," was conducted in Milwaukee between June and December 2001, and the results were released last month."

opps, I didn't know that I'll make the change, but I haven't lived in Milwaukee in 9 years and was trying to move back, and just happened to come across the article. I'll edit it.

Almost every single thread on this entire forum has articles posted in it, yet I've never seen anyone reprimended for it. I wouldn't get too excited about it.

The economy has made it tough for anyone to find a job even in areas in which you are qualified with experience. Milwaukee is a decent sized city but the job market isn't growing. In fact I'd say it is shrinking in most fields. Without knowing your circumstances, you could be in a field that is stagnant or is overly saturated. I can sympathize on the difficulties as I was out of work for over a year in a field that should have been easy to get a job with the experience and qualifications that I had.
