St Lukes Hospital
Hello y'all!
Can anyone shed some light on the St. Lukes and West Allis hospitals and the areas they are located in? We might be working there and wanted to know how safe these areas are, and how the hospitals are as well...we will probably be commuting from Waukesha, and one of my concerns was whether we would have to pass through sketchy neighbourhoods to get to the hospitals?
Many thanks for you help!

Decent areas, absolutely no need to fear any time, day or night.

I agree with Nuclear Art. The area is fine. I'm at both hospitals often.
St Luke's is a GREAT hospital. Definitely pretty busy because of it's location. It's surrounded by a few suburbs and Milwaukee so there are many people nearby. It also has a great cath lab.
I've also been to West Allis a lot. I don't like it here as much. It's still a good hospital, but I prefer St Lukes a lot more.
Keep in mind, my opinions are based on their ERs. I'm a firefighter so it's rare that I'd be anywhere else in the hospital unless I'm a patient.
As far as location, you will be safe.

St Luke's is great! It's located south of downtown but 27th St is a main road and easily accessible. If you get a little ways northeast, IMO, the neighborhood is not as good but still not scary or dangerous. From a patient's point of view the Vince Lombardi Cancer Center & radiation oncology areas are wonderful. I have around 6 relatives that work there and they all love it.
I'm not familiar with West Allis Hospital. I think I was only there once.

St. Luke's is on the south side of Milwaukee right near 27th St., a major road on the south side. I know someone who works there, and my neighbor grew up in that neighborhood. To me, it seems like a decent neighborhood. I don't know what the local schools are like; Milwaukee has some good schools, but they can be hard to enroll in. The area seems pretty safe to me. The hospital itself got a major expansion a few years back and is now enormous.
The commute in is difficult by public transportation as the connections between Waukesha Co. and Milwaukee Co. public transportation are few, but it shouldn't be too far a drive. You can do most of the drive by highway without having to worry about sketchy areas, assuming as you're coming from a decent part of Waukesha. Most of it can be done pretty easily by highway, and the commute shouldn't be too long (over 45 minutes, likely around 30), although there are other nice areas closer to the hospital if you're not set on Waukesha.

Ehh... they were pretty rude to me today. They got mad because my patient(I'm a firefighter/emt) puked all over their ER floor the second that we brought him in. haha
Really though, they are a very good hospital. They are especially good with cardiac patients.
